No thats likely the US Marshals Urban Training Village that has a fenced in area in the middle of the camp. The area is marked red on my maps. If you try to go in the fenced in area or fool around near the fence they will likely run you off. The gate on A st is open in the day but marked keep out. After about 5pm its closed. The fence on A st has some plastic woven in it to stop you from taking photos. The fence on the back doesnt. I had not posted any photos online yet but since they have a sign up telling what it is I guess its ok to do so. I see stories on the net about this but its clear the people posting them have not visted the area because it is not a prision and its not run by the Army. Its clear to me that it is really what the sign says since the Army uses Camp Beaureguard down the road behind WalMart. I would think they would do all training inside Camp Beaureguard not in a park where anyone can see them. Also this is not a FEMA area since FEMA uses Camp Beaureguard durring huricanes.

The Forest Service site list it as “U.S. Marshall Service Use Area” and it is closed to Motorized Use. If anyone has seen a map of this area that shows it going past the fence I would like to see it.

The rest of the camp is run by the Forestry service and is open to everyone.

My father was stationed at Camp Livingston during WWII. I have a scrapbook that he compiled as well as some photos that were taken by the US Army Signal Corp. Dad worked as a medic, I believa and in the pharmacy. His name is (Sgt) James Zitella. He is 88 years old, and has senile dementia, nut at times is able to recall stories of his time there. His wife, Verma, worked as a housekeeper for one of the officers. She was my Dad’s first wife, and died before I was born so I do not have many details.
The one story that I remember him telling many times was the one about his transfers. Whenever his file came up for transfer, his “Captain” would say ” I’ll take Jimmy’s. And he spent his entire career there.
I would be happy to donate the memorabilia I have to the camp if you would like it.

I was stationed at Camp Livingston in 1945 with IARTC (training center). I was in charge of a flame thrower demonstration in front of 200 young soldiers sitting in the stands when a Lt. took the flame thrower and pulled the trigger. The flames shot out over the stands but thankfully no one was hurt. I never saw the Lt. again, I suppose he was shipped out to the South Pacific. Sgt. William Hooten

My friends and I are curious to know of any folk legends for the Camp Area. We’ve been told that there were several executions held at the “Hanging Trees.” We are curious to know ya’ll think any of the area is haunted. We’ve done our own investigations and have found a man by the name of Carmen. We do not know much on him, but if anyone has any information we would be greatly appreciated if you would tell us more. We do know that the camp was used to hold German and Italian POWs during WWII. If there are any other signaficant places that may be haunted, we would love that information as well. If you could email me with this info it would be greatly appreciated. My email is bigroy_87@hotmail.com thanks.

I found a picture of an African American man in military uniform in an junk story in Spring Hill, LA. On the back of the picture is written “Hdq (?) Bat 2nd Bn 351 F.A. C. Livingston.” At first, I thought the man pictured was named C. Livingston, but after more research I found out it was where he was stationed. Does anyone know about the black troop at Camp Livingston?

Alot of the comments about the Camp Livingston area, are just not true – lots of misinformation. The Us Marshall Service has “use” of an area within Camp Livingston, by way of a Special Use permit with the Forest Service. This area is for training purposes, and they have been allowed to develop an “urban village” type setting, they often hold high speed chases, etc so that law enforcement officers can be trained. The La National Guard also has a special use permit with the FS to do some training, staging, etc on specific sites. Even the Waterworks Plant is on FS property, but they have a special use permit to operate that plant (left over from Livingston days).

I am the Distrcit Ranger with the Forest Service who manages the Camp Livingston miltary complex (40,000 acres). I AM in the process of cleaning the area up, improving the recreational offerings and turning the military infrustructure into an interpretive center with walking and viewing trail areas. I need information (history), artifacts, Oral histories, visitors to share ideas and most important assistance with cleaning up the major trash dumping problem that has persisted for 20 plus years. See Alexandria Town Talk New article 3/4/07 Local news paper comments on Livingston. Please contact me at rstone03@fs.fed.us. For those of you who happen to be local drop in and see me. With your help, care and concern we can get this done. Most important we can show case Louisianas contribution to freedom during WWII. Lets do this!!!!!

  23. Christopher V. Sakos Says:

My late father, Pfc Eugene E. Sakos, from Bernardsville, N.J. had advanced infantry training at Camp Livingston in the summer and fall of 1945. WW-2 ended and he did go to Germany for a bit with the Army of Occupation near Munich after AIT. I remember him telling me of the Camp Livingston. He said it was very hot, having to make a “human chain” to save a few guys in the river while on manuvers, and he and a D.I got in a fist fight in front of everyone, and after putting the D.I. in his place, there were many witnesses saying the D.I. threw the first punch. He said off base, he almost got a tatoo, but didn’t like the looks of the person giving them. I have his company picture from there somewhere. -Christopher V. Sakos

There are alot of fables and myths that have been generated about Camp Livingston over the years. Some of these stories are founded on fact, whereas, most of them are based soley upon fiction. A few are simple twists of truth and many are splinters that have broken off from the truth, only to evolve into “fireside” ghosts stories passed down from generation to generation. I happen to know a few of the real facts, but have no genuine evidence to back these facts. Therefore, most, if not all of the knowledge I possess on these matters, is clearly dismissed as works of an overactive imagination that relies on half baked conspiracy theories and speculations based on hearsay. This is simply not the case. I’m looking for individuals who are willing to work with me on uncovering the truth and building a presentable case on what has really gone on at Camp Livingston over the years and to what may still be going on. Not only from the supernatural aspect of the whole picture, but from the historical standpoint that
somehow ties everything together. Some keywords of this investigation I am conducting include the following; bunkers, underground tunnels, sealed chambers containing WWII surplus, devil worship, hanging trees, coverups and yes, conspiracies. If you are interested in participating in any way,

A friend of mine turned me on to the awesome atv trails at camp livingston about six months ago. My wife and I along with several of our friends love it. We hear lots of stories about the history of the camp. We enjoy the riding very much there. It is one of the most beautiful places to legally ride around central LA. I would love to have some info on the structures that still remain such as the two big swimming pools that we found and any info on a place called the “ice house”. What were they for? Where is the Ice House? I also hear there is an old church in the middle of the woods. Can anyone tell me about it? We plan to make many more rides at livingston and would like to visit all of the points of interest. Please send me any info on this to justin.kelly@martco.com. Thanks, and lets all help keep it clean. Good fun for friends and family

I came across this webpage while doing some family research. I can’t begin to say how excited I am!!! Camp Livingston is where my mother’s parents not only met, but were married. I had no idea any remnant of it still exsisted. My grandmother was a nurse, Lurline Lemoine; and she met my grandfather, Ed Morris who was an officer, in the hospital. I have no idea if he was assigned to the hospital or another unit on the base. Grandma said that her commanding officer, being an older gentleman, was the person who “gave her away”, as her father was no longer living. I thought this was a very sweet story to attach to an otherwise unpleasant time in our nation’s history. If anyone should happen to have a map that shows the location of the chapel, or a picture of it or the hospital, I would really love to see it posted!

What a wonderful discovery! In November of 1942 I was born at Camp Livingston, where I would spend the next 3 months of my life. Since there were countless babies in the camp, my bed was a dresser drawer which was somehow attached to a rocking chair. I was a colicky baby and my dad would rock the chair with his foot off and on all night to keep me quiet. My father, Melvin James Larson, was raised in Wisconsin, and was stationed with the 32nd. I grew up fascinated by the few stories he shared with me regarding his nearly 4 years overseas. Since his death in 1987 I have been scrounging for more info on the 32nd, but have found very little info available, as so many of our beloved soldiers are still alive. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone who could tell me more about the camp in 1942 or about the 32nd.

Ben, I actually DO Know of the goings on out there. Really in the 50’s -70’s. I know about the old ice house and the tunnels. People! Listen! I am looking for an old Town Talk which had the Ice House printed
in the Town Talk. My guess would be around 1991-1992. No one wants to know the real truth. I believe people are afraid of what they do not know.
Sounds like you, too know all to well went on! As I know by my own memories! Also not only Camp Livingston, but Camp Polk as it was called, and Camp Beauregard. As past Woodworth, La. I wish I could give you my email; but it is way to risky.

okay..well these are stories my dad told me.
My dad is 40 yrs old and he grew up around camp livingston. his family were into witchcraft, and when he was 14 yrs old, he was asked to go to one of the the ceremonies and he went, he was so freaked out by what he saw that he ran to his house. well couple years later, he was out with friends and they went to the “ice house” this place was were they would have their ceremonies at, well it was just him and his buddy, when they went further down in that place it got colder and colder. well he felt something scratch him across his arm and they herd growls. when they started running, they herd footsteps behind them. right when they were about to get out something scratched his back and cried out in pain. when his friend went to look at it, it was a deep gash, like claws just went across it, then another night he was in another part of the woods, he and his friends herd chanting and saw fire, then they got up and saw them running after them, they ran for the car and got in, and drove away.
then he told me there is this road by the “ice house”, you go there at midnight, turn the car off, turn the headlights off, and sit there. right then you will see dark shadows walking across the road, like hundreds of them. he told me demons stay there. and in the middle of the night you can hear panthers roaring only they sound like women screaming.

this stuff is true, i went there to see if he was telling the truth and while me, my 13 yr old brother and my mom was there, we herd a womens scream and chanting. and then i herd a panther off in the distance you can tell which is the panthers voice and the actual thing. and also while we were there, it was late at night we herd a something huge go into the water, it was pitch black!. we high tailed our butts inside the cabin, next day we went to check it out and we didnt find anything.

you can believe it if you want to but ever since that night i believe in demons and ghosts. if you live in around camp livingston you know what im talking about. if you don’t go check it out for yourself.

Friends and I often go out at night to Livingston to take photos looking for Orbs. We get a lot of them. The slabs of the old ice houses still stand, the hanging trees are right on the road side and somewhere there is a fort type structure that we stumbled upon. I’ve never heard chanting, never seen demons. I’ve felt uneasy and even like I’ve needed to leave because it was very oppressive. I’ve never got scratches and I’ve never been hit by anything. Its a spooky place at night, but I find that the scariest part of Livingston at night are the other people driving around. Some are looking for parties, some just driving and having beer but some are just out to make trouble. i.e. Kristi Smith getting killed out there a few years back. Its a great place to investigate and I suggest you try it out. But don’t go alone. Its easier to get the courage up to go into the dark trees with another person there. And yes, there are lots of wild animals out there to include panthers.

i have witness a few things out at ( the camp) , me and a group of freinds where going out there one night to a party, It was a new bunker some freinds found out by the ( original ) ice house , it was at night so i dont rem exactly where this place was . An hour later we was heading back to the car and went home. The very next morning we woke up and we have see about 70 to 100 baby hand prints and smears all over the car . ( we washed it the evening before we went out there). I was at the entrance on the ball side , ( theres a four wheeler trail on the left) we was all out there one night drinking and about 50 yards away we seen this yellowish light in the woods coming at us at a slow speed and it was steady ( it wasnt moving side to side or up and down ) it chase us to the car . My dad use to be a cop for rapides parish, he has told me that there were times we was patroling the area and he has broken up cults out there , with pep all around the fire with goat heads on sticks .

Well, I don’t know if it’s what you are looking for, but I took trips there as a kid. Family would get together and take a dozen or more three-wheelers and we would ride all over the place. I can tell you, there aren’t many places more haunting around. There are some pretty horrific stories (most of which I can only recall bits and pieces of) revolving around the old ice house. Satanic cults were the norm there in the 80’s and I stayed close to my grandfathers side and his pistol stayed close to his. We had loads of fun there, ridding from sun up to sun set, but there was the ever present thought of what else roamed that land.

I remember firing my first Stoner design rifle there (Eugene Stoner, inventor of the M16 and father to all the AR-15’s and M4’s we have today). We were shooting some bottle rickets into a chert pit when a National guard truck pulled up. They were just roaming about and as I recall my grandfather knew one of them. After some pestering on my part he let me shoot one round from his rifle. I had the empty shell casing for years. It’s a very fond memory.

I also recall being out later than we should one night. We were close to the icehouse and my uncle sat on his three wheeler smoking a cigarette. He thumped it into a large open pit and it hit the bottom. Then it moved about two foot and started glowing brightly as if another draw was being taken from it. I’m not sure a group of Hondas have EVER run so hard to get back to the truck.

Hello, I live in camp Livingston and grew up here my entire life. I am 28 years old and I have been going to camp livingston during the night and day since I was about 10 years old. When I was a child, I heard all these crazy stories about ghost, devil worship, and all this other crazy stuff. Let me say this, and this is the gods honest truth. Camp livingston is a place where people go to party and make trouble. It is a place where the law enforcement rarely goes, so people go there to do there drugs, dump stolen cars, and others go to figure out the truth about these mysterys. I first started going to figure out the truth about these mysterys also. After years of going to camp livingston, I have came to the conclusion that it is definately not haunted. It is a place that is scary, because there is no lights, there is many animals making crazy noises. Although I have never seen them, I do believe there is probably some weirdos out there devil worshiping. It is not a good place to be after dark, unless you are with a lot of people, or have your 12 gauge in your lap. I am 100% positive, it is not haunted, you will not see any shadows or be scratched unless you see a deer walk across the road or get scratched by a raccoon. People have dumped bodies there, for example a guy i went to school with, Robert Smith, killed his sister and dumped her body there. I would like to have pictures of camp livingston if anybody has them. Please send me pictures to joshmoreau@rocketmail.com

The icehouse was recently enclosed by a security fence topped with barb wire. The “bunkers” that were near the icehouse have been demolished and removed. The old lift station site where the pump buiding was once located has been completely filled in with dirt and buried along with many other “fall hazard” locations scattered throughout the camp. Much more of this “clean up” is slated for the near future as several large hoppers have been set up in various areas.

Want to know about Camp Livingston? I’ll tell you the only thing you need to know: stay the hell away. Lots of nasty things happening there. Looking past all of the people that go there to party/do drugs/get drunk, Camp Livingston is an area that is utilized by both the KKK and satanic cults due to the low amount of traffic through the area. I’ve known someone who was almost killed there, and he still has the scars from the attack.

Its true what everyone says about it. Bad things deff go on over there. I live 2 miles from Camp Livingston in Pollock, la. It is still currently open to the public, for whatever. Me and my friends used to go swimming at the lake in livingston all the time..people never bothered to tell me the history of it or all the background things. I’ve lived by it all my life, to be honest people don’t talk about it down here, when you ask them they just simply chuckle and say, “ahh, not much to know. Just kids getting into trouble”. Till one day (this is going to sound cheesy but i put my hand on the bible this is a true story) me and my friend met a women, friend of a friend, who was a pagen (which is wierd considering all of us are religious people) Shes the sweetest person ever lol. But anyway, she does ghost hunting with her friends (much older than us). She asked if we wanted to go, since weve never been to some other parts like the “ice house” or “the devils circle” which is a part in the woods where its a complete circle where trees just don’t grow. And the ice house as they call it, well, a few people ended up dead there, murder actually. So, we went lol being teenagers and all (im 20 now) i really like watching it on t.v so i thought id do it in real life. We went to the ice house first, im not a medium what so ever but the whole time i had goose bumps and my nerves and hair stood on end..i didn’t like it. We used a box to communicate with them, idk if it was legit but the box said only a few select words on repeat like, “get out” or “home” me and my friend was being silly and asked if there was some cute guys here, if so do they think were cute..we got, “maybe…” then a distinct, “YES”. Creeped me and her out..lol After all of that we decided to look for Brandy(the pagen who brought us). But we couldn’t find her anywhere, we looked in and out of the ice house. So, we walked around the back (i kid you not) she was standing with her back toward us whispering and almost in tears..so we was worried and asked what was wrong, she whips around and says with concern and worry, “we need to leave, i feel darkness and it doesn’t like us here” (if i did’t mention it, she told us she was ‘sensitive’) Considering that, we left the ice house and drove to the “devils circle” which stories have it doesn’t like women in it, made me feel uninvited so all the of us walked in it. (i had on my brave face, but secretly in was on the brink of screaming). But when we pulled up to this devils circle..on the outside of it theres a fence and on the entrace walk way there a concrete wall thingy that came up to my waist. She said thats what keep the spirits at bay was this fence bc theres a mad spirit lady who doesn’t like company. She’ll make your nose bleed or back spasms etc. (ha! i thought it was stupid..) I forgot to add this part, when we pulled up a tree was blocking the road to the entrance. So brandy got out to see and she walked to the tree and saw the tree (BIG ASS oak tree) had knocked the fence down a good bit. She saw it as a sign but we carried on any way and got to walk around the tree and go in..no joke i swear within 10 minutes brandy was so sick almost throwing up..shit, i was fine i was holding burning sage lol or somethiing. So, she walks over to us bc me and my friend are just aimlesly walking around in the dark. Tells us we should go, doesn’t feel right. We start walking out and like clock work the wind blows so hard and then coyotes start howling, starting from ahead of us, then to our right then left..lets just say i wasn’t waiting around..i did cross country and softball, i took off to the car lmao. We all got in and brandy says, “that was a sign she didn’t want us there” shit….i didn’t care if it was jesus christ himself, felt like a concrete sign to me to get the hell out. Unfortunatly, its not over..yet. She drives us through the woods again to where an old hospital used to be..an crazy asylum? idk. But we pull up and get out, she tells us its okay here, she only feels good presences. So, we doodle around..im kinda bored and creeped out, wanna go home lol Then we here a loud ass truck coming our way..we think great some crazy ass rednecks with nothing else to do..well there truck starts slowing down like it gunna turn down the road where on (livingston has so many twists and turns, if your not familiar with it, don’t bother) and sure enough it does..so we go back to the vehicle, me and my friend that is to see if we know them, we had just graduated from high school..helps knowing a few people. They pull up to us, stop, shine there brights in our face. My friends pissed so she starts walking towards the truck to tell them to go another way or stop being a fucking ass, and a voice (i kid you not) was strange, i can’t describe it, i know this sounds beyond crazy stupid but demonic like. All he said to her when she was almost at the window was, “don’t” a very calm don’t. she stopped in her tracks and said, “well, why not? your being an ass by shining your brights on us, what do you want?” all he said was, ” please, just turn around and go home, please.” Like he was pleading to her to go home. (i was right behind her while he was talking, we couldn’t see his face). She just says whatever turns around and walks off and he starts to back dwn the road to leave when he gets to the end he turns right and his truck is almost loud enough you could hear it a mile and a half away..as soon as he turns we don’t hear him anymore. We figure hes playing with us, as soon as we leave hes gunna follow. So, we do one better, we go to him, get in the car and back out but when we turn right..nobodys there, theres no trails or roads near by for him to go down. (i have always loved watching ghost shit on t.v..nothing was compared to this. ) So, after we are..idk..just about freaking the fuck out! Brandy makes it worse by saying, ” girls i didn;t want to say anything while he was here but..i think he was possessed, i felt a dark energy, we need to leave..tonite has been a really wierd confusing night for me” By the way im on the brink of tears..never in my whole damn life have i experienced anything like that. I wanted a history lesson, i did one better. But, till this day i have never went back. By the way..her husband is in the army for there, i thought i was freaked out by what happened..the stories he told us about the REAL history of camp livingston (which he made us swear to never tell, im not joking or being retarded either) there completely ‘secret’, the public isn’t supposed to know about other killings of army people that was ‘unexplained’. Believe me or not I DON’T CARE..honestly i don’t. That was my story of camp livingston, say its not haunted or say it is. I know my truth.

Dry Den Rd. In Ball , La.
The old Dryden residence is on the outskirts of camp livingston off Dry Den Rd. Rumor has it they had a old bunker behind his house that was on camp livingston property where I heard some very disturbing things have happened. Talk was there where chains with cuffs like in old prisoner torture camps hanging from the walls. I hear they used this place long after the camp was shut down and that it was used as a sex slave chamber in the recent 10 years. Murder is almost a certain if thats true. If anyone dares to search and find it, I would love to see some pics as to whether its true or not. Rumors are speculations but if the bunker is realy there then I would assume the rumors are true too.

I spent most of my young adulthood roaming around camp Livingston and camping out there. I have a wartime map with the location and names of all the buildings out there. There was a camp graveyard there for P.O.W.’s who died, but the bodies were removed after the war and sent home to their kin. After the war, all of the buildings were cleaned out and the material buried in 2 spots.(I have dug there and found old dog tags, hundreds of shaving mugs dated 1940, hundreds of coke bottles dated 1940, etc..) Forget the satanic stuff. I’ve camped out there many times and the only deaths and satanic crap were kids from the area who wanted to perpetuate that image. Just about the only thing that went on out there was a lot of parking by local teens looking for some privacy from the Ball police.

I’m very interested in backpacking the area and exploring the foundations and remains of old structures and points of interest. Does anyone have GPS coordinates for these places?

Does anyone have coordinates for interesting places in Camp Livingston? I would like to find the devil’s circle if anyone has coordinates or some kind of information. People say that there are places to see out there but nobody seems willing to share the locations of these places. The lack of information I am able to pull up about this place is startling.

I grew up on property adjacent to the camp and spent my childhood doodling around out there. I know the place like the back of my hand. I knew some guys who had been stationed there and they told me about some of the different areas.
If you want me to tell what I know just email me.

Let’s do a reality check for you kids and grownups….there is no haunting, devil worshipping, ghosts here….just a few idiots every so often wanting to smoke dope, party, drink, and bang jailbait away from the public.
there are just a few landmarks left in camp nowadays, soon to be gone due to idiot grownups crying over the fact that once in a blue moon some other teenage idiots will get a small scratch on their arm from being drunk at night and tripping over their own shadows.
for all you dumbasses out there that contributed somehow to the demise of these already few structures in the camp…shame on you….
the camp should have been preserved the way it was at the end of the war…..everyone needs reminding of the tragedy of war as well as the massive american teamwork put forth by everyone during wartime.
