I found an ashtray at a yard sale. I would like to know a little more about it’s history. Therwe are letters at the top, ASFTC, bottom says Camp Claiborne LA with a large colonel cluster in the bottom of tray. 6″ in diameter and about 2 1/2″ deep. Any clue as to when it was issued?

For two years prior going into the service I was driving a gravel (dump)truck. When they started building Camp Claiborne I was sent from Baton Rouge La over there to haul red clay for base for streets. At that time they had just up rooted pine trees and the mud was so deep we were met at the highway with track equipment to pull us in.
View CommentI received my greetings in late 1941. On March 10th 1942 I caught a buss in my home town headed to Camp Bouregard. There we got our shots and then sent to Camp Claiborne. When I got there the new division had not been activated. Only a Cadre was there. A request was made for truck drivers and I volenteered. I wound up in 325 Reg. in service co. I do have pictures but not sure I can get them to you. After hauling baggage in from the rail spur I was assigned to a jeep driving for a S2 officer. He is 93 and have contact with him for a long period of time. I just recently had my 90th birthday.
